TCT Asia 2026 has established itself as one of the most influential additive manufacturing events in Asia, marking its largest edition to date with more than 550 exhibitors across over 55,000 square meters of exhibition space. The key trends observed in the metal additive manufacturing sector can be summarized into four areas. First, automation of metal powder management in PBF equipment is rapidly becoming standard among major Chinese machine manufacturers, with systems for powder collection, sieving, regeneration, and resupply emerging as a crucial factor for productivity, safety, and process automation. Second, unmanned and automated production concepts are being actively implemented through AI-based monitoring, AGVs, automated powder removal, cartridge handling, and smart factory systems, although many examples are still presented mainly through videos or demonstration models. Third, copper additive manufacturing, especially for thermal management applications, is gaining strong momentum, with numerous samples of pure copper and special alloy parts on display and dedicated green-laser equipment being introduced. Fourth, Chinese companies are quickly filling the space once occupied by European equipment and software firms, while also presenting new approaches such as friction-based metal additive manufacturing. CY Autotech is also developing a metal additive manufacturing smart factory capable of 168 hours of continuous production, including automated powder regeneration and supply, AI-based process inspection, and copper heat-dissipation components using a 1 kW laser. The visit also highlighted the strength of China’s laser and photonics ecosystem, reaffirming that a solid foundation in materials, components, and equipment is essential for the future competitiveness of manufacturing.
